Video of Riverside HS Teacher Performing "Tomahawk Chop" Dance Goes Viral

A video of John W North High School Teacher, Candice Reed, has gone viral on social media after she was filmed wearing Native American headgear and performing a 'tomahawk chop' dance. In the video, the teacher can be seen "war hooping & tomahawk chopping" for several minutes. The video was was filmed by a Native American student in Reed's Math class. According to the student, he "felt that violence was being committed against him and he had the right to record."

Riverside Unified School District released a statement this morning where they state that "These behaviors are completely unacceptable and an offensive depiction of the vast and expansive Native American cultures and practices. Her actions do not represent the values of our district. The teacher has been placed on leave while the District conducts an investigation." Click here for full statement.

Many on social media asked by the teacher was not fired instead of placing her on leave.
