Sulley Muntari, the star midfielder on Ghana's World Cup team, spent some of his time off the field this weekend handing out cash to the impoverished residents of Maceio, the Brazilian city where his country's soccer team is competing in group play. Muntari, who plays pro soccer in Italy, was given permission from his World Cup coach to sign autographs, take photos with locals and hand out money, but local police eventually asked him to stop. Said one of the lucky cash recipients, "Not once has a soccer player come here. Brazil never gave me anything but Ghana did."
