Kelly Ripa Tearfully Reveals How COVID-19 Crisis Has Impacted Her Family

Kelly Ripa is having a hard time keeping distant from her loved ones.

During Wednesday’s (April 8) broadcast of Live with Kelly and Ryan, the 49-year-old nearly broke down in tears while reflecting on how the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has impacted her family. Ripa, who is currently self-quarantining with husband Mark Consuelos, tearfully confessed some of her children “won’t hug” her when they’re together and admitted that she’s “not speaking to two of my three kids” amid the crisis, either.

“Just because, we’re all in the same boat together, right?” she told cohost Ryan Seacrest, referring to she and Consuelos’ daughter Lola, 18, and sons Michael, 22, and Joaquin, 17.

“I haven’t gotten to hug my parents. I want to hug my parents. I miss hugging my parents,” she went on, fighting back tears. “And my kids, like, won’t hug me. And I’m like, ‘Guys, we’ve all been in lockdown together. We’re fine. You can give me a hug. It’s fine.’”

“Anyway, I’m sorry. I don’t know why I’m crying. Maybe I’m just going to get my period, who knows,” Ripa added apologetically. “Sorry, sorry. Sometimes we forget that we’re on. Did I shout that, or did my inner monologue come out? Sorry, didn’t mean to do that.”

Elsewhere during the episode, Ripa revealed the other ways the pandemic has hindered important events for her loved ones. “I feel so bad for my son, Michael, who was supposed to graduate in a couple of weeks,” she shared. “And I really feel bad for my dad who delayed having knee surgery that he can’t obviously have now for so many myriad reasons. He was so looking forward to, you know, watching his grandson graduate from college.”

Both Ripa and Consuelos have been immensely supportive in the fight against COVID-19, having donated $1 million toward relief efforts in New York, which has the highest confirmed coronavirus cases nationwide with over 151,000 people infected.
