Get Out, Shape of Water, Lady Bird Lead 2018 Oscar Noms

The 2018 Academy Award nominations were announced today, with several movies--includingThe Shape of Water, Dunkirk, Get Out, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Phantom Thread, and Lady Bird--emerging as this year's possible frontrunners. All of those films earned nods for Best Picture and Best Director except Three Billboards, which failed to earn a Best Director nod for Martin McDonagh. Meanwhile, Three Billboards and Shape of Water scored three acting nominations apiece, with Lady Bird and Phantom Thread scoring two each. Among this year's snubs, James Franco was overlooked as both the star and director of The Disaster Artist (perhaps due to the sexual misconduct allegations against him), while Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish, who co-hosted the nominations announcement, failed to earn a Best Supporting Actress nod. The 90th Academy Awards take place on March 4 at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel returning as host.
