I always get a little worried when I see that the IE has topped a list, because I feel like the news likes to only show the negative stuff going on here. It this case, I'll let you be the judge on whether or not this is a negative issue. According to research conducted by Zillow, Southern California in general has higher rates of millennials still living with mom, due in part to the high rates of rents. More specifically, the study found that the Inland Empire is number one on this list!
Some interesting stats:
- More than 14 million young adults nationwide — or 21.9% of people ages 23 to 37 — live with their mothers, up from 12.7% in 2000.
- More millennials live with their moms in areas where rents are less affordable.
Other factors that play a part in the IE landing on top of this list have to do with the housing market crash years ago and many millennial adults feeling gun-shy to buy homes again.
