HULKSICKO! Is An Upcoming HipHop Artist With All Gas, No Brakes

HULKSICKO!’s passion for music started when he was in high school in his hometown of Bronx, NY. After being deterred from a promising basketball career by a hip injury, the Bronx native decided to focus on his musical abilities. HULKSICKO! recorded his first song in the summer of 2017. He recalls watching videos on how to use auto-tune for an hour and by the end of the night he had created a very rudimentary track. He chuckles stating, “It was trash.” The independent artist stayed the course and persisted to create for 3 more years before finally finding his sound. His musical style and sound is very unique in that it is inspired by a combination of the trials and triumphs of an East Coast upbringing. “Most of my music is melodic and uptempo, which I think is dictated by the beats I choose. In terms of lyrics they can go right or left depending on how I’m feeling, and where I’m at. I like to tell people about parts of my life even if they can’t relate to it, because the real fans are going to relate. Those are the types of fans I want around my music.”

Q: Where do you currently live?

A: Right now I live in Los Angeles. I came out here earlier this year (2021) on vacation and ended up staying for 4 months longer than expected. After I created a routine and I harnessed the right energy around me I knew it was going to be a better fit than New York for what I wanted to accomplish.

Q: Why music? Describe your passion.

A: I chose music because it allowed me to express myself when I didn’t know how to discuss my emotions with anyone. Same way when I was young and angry, I would listen to music to help get me out of certain moods. It didn’t always work and sometimes the lyrics in the songs made it worse but that's how I knew music was impactful.

Q In your opinion, what makes you stand out from other artists out there?

A . I think I stand out from other artists because of the fact that a lot of my music is sort of unplanned. I don't like to write each song the same way and I don’t follow any pattern when it comes to music. Some days I will come with the song half written, some days I will come with this song fully done and some days I’ll freestyle just to get a different sound out of what I’m trying to create.

Q What are your goals when it comes to your music career?

A One of the goals I have for myself as an artist is to perform in China just because it was something that I was supposed to do but it was deterred a couple times so getting that off my bucket list is something that I’d like to do. Recently I’ve also been listening to a lot of UK artists so down the line I’d probably collaborate with the UK artist. Lastly, I'd like to have a platinum record!

Q Who are 3 artists you look up to?

A Hotboii, Lil Baby, and NoCap

Q Who is your motivation and why?

A: My motivation mostly is my mother who came to America from Liberia in hopes for a better life. She didn't have a mother for most of her life so it's important for me to give her life she never thought she could have. I'm also motivated by brothers. I encourage others to keep people around you who are like-minded in the sense that they have similar goals as you. That way y'all gon' motivate each other in different ways.
