Feel Good News: Prison Inmates Buy Bikes For Elementary School Kids

A couple hundred kids are proud owners of new bicycles, thanks to inmates at the Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California. This is the fourth year the prison has teamed up with the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center for the event.

Inmates at the correctional facility helped raise more than $15,000 to pay for the bikes and accessories and some donated their own money earned while working. And two hundred children benefited with a new bike. The lucky kids were chosen based on good behavior at school and merit.

“It feels great,” inmate Andrew Breckenridge says. He’s one of two inmates who got to attend the event at the Kroc Center and will be released from prison in a few days. “I mean, I can’t describe the feeling, seeing the smiles on these kids faces.”

Talk about a win-win!!
