It's a boy-oom! A Nebraska man who set off a powdered blue explosive to reveal that he and his wife were expecting a baby boy came under fire from residents of a neighboring town over the weekend after thy mistook his pyrotechnics for an exploding house and called the cops. Joe Sterkel used an exploding target and a bunch of chalk powder to announce his baby-to-be’s gender. But while the explosives are legal to purchase, one must obtain a permit to set them off—which Sterkel failed to do. So he was cited for a misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of $1,000. For his part, Sterkel tells The Omaha World-Herald that he’s planning “something a little more low key” for the actual birth of his son, who’s expected to arrive in June.
