Plenty of people have peed while swimming, but what might astonish you is just how much mellow yellow is in your average public pool. According to a new University of Alberta study, the average large pool contains almost 20 gallons of urine at any one time. While the health benefits of swimming vastly outweigh the risks posed by traces of hit whiz in the deep end, Purdue University engineer Ernest Bletchley tells NPR, "I think you can assume that if people are using your pool, they're peeing in it. I view it like secondhand smoke: It's disrespectful and potentially dangerous."
