Jessica Simpson Opens Up About Her Childhood Sexual Abuse

Jessica Simpson reveals in her upcoming memoir that was battling substance abuse just two years ago after dealing with sexual abuse as a child. People reports that the 39-year-old Simpson writes in Open Book that the abuse started when she was 6 years old and shared a bed with the daughter of a family friend. "It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable...I was the victim, but somehow I felt in the wrong," she writes. She adds that it took her six years to tell her parents; when she finally did, her mom Tina told then-husband Joe, "I told you something was happening." Simpson says, "We never stayed at my parents’ friends house again, but we also didn’t talk about what I had said." Things came to a head in 2017 when she realized she was "killing myself with all the drinking and pills" and thought to herself, "I need to stop. Something’s got to stop. And if it’s the alcohol that’s doing this, and making things worse, then I quit."Open Book" hits shelves on February 4.
