Monday marked the very first “National Unclaimed Property Day” and our state Controller, Betty Yee, celebrated by encouraging people to use the California online database of forgotten funds! Apparently, there are more than $10.2 billion just sitting and waiting to be found by their rightful owners.
The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators is pushing to raise public awareness about this “important consumer protection.” One in every 10 people nationwide has forgotten property stashed away somewhere, waiting to be claimed, it said.
