A new study from the Marriage Foundation suggests that couples who meet online are more likely to divorce within the first three years of marriage.

Researchers found that around 12 percent of couples who met online were divorced within three years of marriage, compared to 8% through school or even 3% who met at a bar.

The study also suggests that couples who met through friends and family are the least likely to get divorced within 10 years.

Study author Harry Benson theorizes why couples who meet online are likely to divorce within three years, saying "Gathering reliable information about the long term character of the person you are dating or marrying is quite obviously more difficult for couples who meet online without input from mutual friends or family or other community."
