College is a hard thing to adjust to, and now a new study can prove that. The study suggests that one-third of all first-year college students have moderate to severe depression and/or anxiety. If a student has a history of anxiety and depression, they were also four times less likely to recover from their mental health disorders throughout the year.

Freshmen who reported feeling connected to their university were less likely to develop mental health disorders.

The study's author stressed that "university mental health policies, programs and practices, with the availability of clubs, societies and sporting activities are likely to be key in promoting student mental health and wellbeing."
