Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross revealed the 2022 Oscar nominations early this morning. “The Power of the Dog” leads all nominees with 12 nods, Dune nabbed 10. You can see the full list of nominations here, but I wanted to point out a couple of notable achievements to come out of this year's nominees.
In individual achievements, Steven Spielberg breaks his own record for having the most Best Picture nominations. He now has 11 with the nomination of Westside Story.
Lin-Manuel Miranda could pull off the EGOT this year. If he wins Best Original Song for "Dos Oruguitas" from Encanto, he'll add the Oscar to his Emmy, Grammy and Tony wins for Hamilton. No, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was not nominated for an Oscar because Lin-Manuel didn’t submit it for consideration. He felt “Dos Oruguitas” was the heart of the story and only wanted to submit one. More on that here. My kids and I are particularly bummed about this.
Beyoncé received her first Oscar nomination with her Best Original Song contribution to King Richard titled "Be Alive."
Questlove's Summer of Soul was nominated for Best Documentary Feature.
