You can procrastinate getting your REAL ID a little longer.
On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security moved the deadline to update your ID to May 7, 2025. REAL IDs have gold stars on them to verify your status.
The delay is the third pandemic-related extension for REAL ID. The updated form of identification was scheduled for air travel starting in 2020 but was moved to 2021. The next deadline was pushed to May 3, 2023.
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said, "This extension will give states needed time to ensure their residents can obtain a REAL ID-compliant license or identification card."
