Six months after making headlines, Kia and Hyundai are rolling out software to deter thefts related to a TikTok challenge.

You may recall, 'Kia Boyz' showed viewers how to pop off the ignition column and use a USB drive to start the vehicle without a key or code. Hyundai said thieves were targeting cars without immobilizers, which became standard on all cars after November 1st, 2021.

Authorities believe the TikTok challenge led to 14 crashes and 8 deaths since summer 2022.

3.8 million Hyundais and 4.5 million Kias will be eligible for the software update free of charge. [CNN]
