The DUI suspect, Michael Joseph Callahan, was charged Wednesday with one count of murder in connection with the death of California Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Licon.
Sgt. Steve Licon had pulled over a vehicle on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore Saturday and that's when the suspects vehicle struck the officer. According to officials, the suspects vehicle was travelling along the shoulder instead of the designated traffic lanes.
If convicted, Callahan could face a sentence of 15 years to life in state prison.
