Doctors are warning the public to avoid swimming or showering while wearing contact lenses to avoid becoming blind due to an infection called acanthamoeba keratitis, which is caused by a parasite that lives in water. The parasite doesn't normally cause problems unless it becomes trapped under the contacts.
