Riverside Police Shoot Suspect After Trying to Hit Them with a Car

Riverside Police had to shoot a suspect Thursday after driving a vehicle toward a crisis negotiator. The incident happened after a car theft victim called police who then spotted the stolen vehicle. Police attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver sped away and ran several red lights. The pursuit lasted 25 minutes and ended after an officer performed a PIT maneuver near the intersection of Van Buren Blvd. and Primrose Dr. SWAT and a crisis negotiator were called to the scene after the suspect refused to get out of the vehicle. According to Police, officers opened fire when the driver restarted the car and drove straight toward a tree where the negotiator was standing. The suspect, a white male in his 20s, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition with a non-life-threatening wound.
