A 37-year-old mother is accused of leaving her 2-year-old son home alone to go to a bar on Thanksgiving evening after she had fired a gun that struck her apartment's front door. Victoria Hidalgo of Port Charlotte, Florida, is now facing a child neglect charge for her actions.
Hidalgo's mother had called the Sheriff's office after she went to Hidalgo's home and found a bullet hole in her front door. Deputies were called to the home and Hidalgo's mother let them inside. That is when they found the 2-year-old son alone in his crib. According to Hidalgo's mom, the child is disabled and recently had brain surgery.
Hidalgo was found later that night in a car being driven by a man that she had met at a bar. The male driver claimed he was worried that Hidalgo would attempt to drive home drunk.
According to deputies, Hidalgo's speech was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot.
The baby is now in the care of a family member.
