A proclamation was signed Tuesday by Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Geoffrey Leung to declare Monkeypox a public health emergency in Riverside County due to a growing number of cases. Vaccines have been in limited amounts, so this move should help officials lobby for additional vaccines.
Riverside County had 59 probable/confirmed cases of Monkeypox as of Tuesday when the health emergency was declared. The Riverside University Health System website shows 71 as of Wednesday, August 10th, 2022. Some patients have been hospitalized briefly, but there have been no deaths reported. According to officials, most symptoms have resolved on their own.
