Mexico was hit with a 6.8 magnitude earthquake Thursday morning at around 1:00am just three days after a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck the same area. Both earthquakes were centered near the Pacific coast in the western state of Michoacan. One person was killed today and two people were killed by Monday's earthquake.
Monday's earthquake was the third major earthquake to strike Mexico on September 19th. The previous were in 1985 and 2017. Both the 2017 and 2022 earthquakes struck shortly after Mexico's annual earthquake drill that is conducted every September 19th in commemoration of the 1985 earthquake that killed around 9,500 people.
