52-year-old Carlos Leonardo Castro Martinez of Menifee is accused of shooting another driver on the 15 freeway in Eastvale during a road rage incident on Friday at around 5:10pm. Martinez was arrested and charged on Wednesday with attempted murder, firearm assault resulting in great bodily injury, shooting at an occupied vehicle, illegal possession of a gun and child endangerment.
During the road rage incident on Friday, Martinez in a Mercedes Benz E320 was involved in an unknown conflict with another driver in a Scion XB southbound on the 15 freeway. According to the CHP, Martinez pulled out a gun and shot the driver of the Scion. Martinez fled the scene. Authorities also said that a boy was in Martinez' vehicle at the time of the altercation, but was not injured. The victim, identified as Erick Garcia was able to exit the freeway and seek assistance. Garcia is healing from the gunshot wound.
