Yella Yella’s “Perfect” Finds Power in Letting Go and Stepping Back In

Yella Yella’s return to music with “Perfect” is rooted in something more than timing and circumstance. Rather, there is a sense that this is an artist who has found release and freedom from pressure and overthinking. For years, music has been a constant in Yella Yella’s life, though not necessarily been made public. She has continued to create and stay involved in a craft that has been her passion since she was a little girl. The difference here is that she has decided to share that music with the public. “Music has always been a passion for me, it’s something I was always into since I was a little girl,” she explains. “I always recorded songs but never put them out, so this record was one of the ones I said no, I won’t sleep on this one. It’s that time.”

There is a sense that Yella Yella has undergone a real transformation and that “Perfect” is less about making a comeback and more about choosing to share that music with the world. The song itself is similarly free and easy. Rather than an elaborate process for its creation and production, she approached this song on her own terms.

At the heart of “Perfect,” though, is a message that challenges people to rethink how they view themselves. Instead of striving for an unrealistic notion of perfection, Yella Yella embraces the idea that one must find worth within. “Perfect means that we should all look at ourselves as being perfect in our own little ways,” she says. “We are so hard on ourselves. We are our own biggest critics. We should uplift ourselves so much more.”

Her outlook is informed not only by her own development but also by how people have responded to her throughout her journey. When she was away, she was reminded that people still listened to her music. “Believe it or not, people would inbox me all the time asking if I am still doing music,” she says. “Even being out, people would come up to me, ask for a picture, and tell me they love my music. I would think to myself, what music?”

As Yella Yella returns to the industry, she’s done so with a keen understanding of the challenges it entails. Comparisons are always going to play a part, especially when the artist is female. However, this isn’t something that the artist accepts. “I see a lot of people love to compare people to this person and that person,” she says. “I just don’t understand why you can’t just be your own person.”

More than anything, she hopes “Perfect” leaves a lasting impact on listeners, particularly women who may struggle with confidence. “I hope it can boost their confidence no matter what shape or size they are,” she says.

Looking ahead, Yella Yella is approaching this new chapter with an open mind. “I’ll finally give this music another run, and let’s just have fun with it,” she says. “Maybe an album soon, who knows.” There’s no rigid plan, only a willingness to keep creating and to see where the journey leads.
