Angelina Jolie On “Wicked Women,” Advice She Gives Her Daughters

Angelina Jolie says the world needs more “wicked women” in her new essay for Elle magazine. She would know – the actress plays the very wicked “Maleficent” on the big screen, and off-set, is raising some strong-minded daughters. She wants them to know that “there is nothing more attractive than a woman with an independent will and their own opinions.”

In the essay, Jolie talks about her travels to countries where she says her “beliefs and actions as a woman could land me in jail or expose me to physical danger.” While women have been labeled “unnatural, weird, wicked and dangerous” to some, she says that “wicked women” are just those “who are tired of injustice and abuse.”

That’s the mindset that she’s passing on to her daughters,Shiloh, Zahara and Vivienne.“I often tell my daughters that the most important thing they can do is to develop their minds,” she writes. “You can always put on a pretty dress, but it doesn’t matter what you wear on the outside if your mind isn’t strong.”
