Video Vanguard honoree Missy Elliott stole the show at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night by reuniting with her “Work It” music video co-star, Alyson Stoner. Disney Channel alum Stoner, who notably appeared in the video at age 9, made a surprise appearance to dance to the hit song during the Vanguard performance. The medley also included such Elliot hits as “Get Ur Freak On,” “Pass the Dutch” and “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).”
Other highlights from the awards ceremony included Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s steamy rendition of “Señorita” and Normani’s live debut of her new single “Motivation.” Miley Cyrus also stopped by to give an emotional performance of her new single “Slide Away.” Taylor Swift opened the show by performing “You Need to Calm Down” with several co-stars from the song’s music video.
