Dave Chappelle Shares Powerful Message In Surprise Comedy Special '8:46'

Dave Chappelle shares some powerful words about the police killing of George Floyd in his new Netflix special, 8:46. The streaming platform surprise-dropped Chappelle's 27-minute program Friday at midnight on YouTube. "Throughout his time onstage, Chappelle returned to 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck during his attempted arrest, subsequently killing him,"Complex reports. Chappelle tells the crowd, "I can't get that number out of my head because it was my time of birth on my birth certificate. I was born at 8:46 in the morning and they killed this n**ga in 8 minutes and 46 seconds." Chappelle also comes for conservative pundits Laura Ingraham and Candace Owens during his set. "I seen Candace Owens try to convince white America, ‘Don’t worry about it. He’s a criminal anyway.’ I don’t give a f**k what this n**ga did," Chappelle says. "I don’t care if he personally kicked Candace Owens in her stanky p**sy. I don’t know if it stanks, but I imagine it does. If I ever find out, I’ll let you know for sure. I’ll tell like Azealia Banks. I’ll tell.” The Hollywood Reporter notes that the special--filmed this past Saturday in Ohio--is believed to be the first socially distanced standup set of the coronavirus era, with all attendees wearing masks while watching Chappelle's set outdoors in spaced-out seating.
