Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a lottery worth $116.5 million in prize money for getting vaccinated. On June 15, the date California is slated to reopen, a drawing will be held to award 10 vaccinated people the top prize of $1.5 million! If you only have your first dose, that counts too!
According to the Press Enterprise, another 30 people will win $50,000 each, with those drawings starting June 4 and anyone 12 and older who has received at least one shot will be eligible.
If you haven’t gotten your vaccine yet, you may want to do that asap, as the next 2 million people who do will get $50 gift cards.
With these added incentives, the hope is to get to 70% immunity before the state fully reopens in a couple of weeks.
