A Pekingese named Wasabi is the 145th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show's Best in Show winner. The cute little pup, which kind of resembles a mini-Chewbacca, topped a Whippet named Bourbon, who came in second place. Wasabi's owner said the pup will celebrate with "filet mignon and champagne"!
Westminster is one of our country's oldest continuing sporting events, only behind our oldest, The Kentucky Derby. Westminster has continued through wars and pandemics. Last year's dog show was moved to June to work around COVID-19.
This was the first Westminster held outside of Madison Square Garden. The dog show, which had taken place in MSG since 1877, was moved due to COVID.
Westminster doesn't want you to think of upper-crust snobs prancing with their pampered pooches. Veteran judge Patricia Craige Trotter said "We love all dogs as dog lovers. Mixed breeds and purebreds. They're all pets. Now, every pet may not be a show dog, but be assured, every show dog is a pet." [CNN]
