Update 9/13/21: There is another sad update to the story below. Daniel Macias, the husband who was in the ICU when his wife Davy died from COVID-19, has passed away too according to a post Friday on the GoFundMe page set up for their surviving children.
Daniel Macias, 38, was a 15-year educator in the Rialto Unified School District, where he was the AVID coordinator and chair of the math department at Jehue Middle School, according to district spokesperson Syeda Jafri. [San Bernardino Sun]

The family of one of our frontline workers is in need. Davy Macias, a 37 year old labor and delivery nurse at Kaiser, passed away from COVID-19 last Thursday after giving birth to her 5th child. She never had the opportunity to meet her baby and now, heartbreakingly, her husband is in the ICU with COVID as well.
A GoFundMe page has been established by Davy's brother and sister to assist with caring for their 4 children at home and the newborn baby, who has yet to be named.
