Netflix just dropped the first look at Blonde.
In this new teaser trailer for the Andrew Dominik-directed film starring Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, the Hollywood icon is initially depicted as a tearful bundle of nerves, praying that some mysterious “she” won’t abandon her. The clip then shows her make-up being applied as she transforms into a smiling, radiant star, we realize exactly who she has been waiting for.
Dominik wrote and directed Blonde based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates.
“We worked on this film for hours, every single day for almost a year,” de Armas shared. “I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films — anything I could get my hands on. Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph. We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it. The first question was always, ‘What was Norma Jeane feeling here?’ We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible.”
In addition to Ana de Armas, the supporting cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams. Brad Pitt serves as one of the producers.
Blonde will be released on Netflix on September 23. [Deadline]
