It was a showdown at the box office this weekend!
Elvis, the Baz Luhrmann’s biopic about the King of Rock and Roll, has danced ahead of Top Gun: Maverick to officially win the weekend box office race and top the domestic chart in its debut.
Final weekend numbers tallied on Monday show Elvis grossing $31.1 million beating Maverick which took in $29.6 million for the weekend.
Elvis stars Austin Butler and Tom Hanks as infamous music manager Colonel Tom Parker and Olivia DeJonge (The Visit) as Priscilla Presley.
The horror film The Black Phone opened up strong this weekend. The Ethan Hawke film grossed $23.25 million. Top Gun: Maverick in its fifth weekend jumps the $1 billion mark globally.
