The new mayor of Earle, Arkansas, just graduated high school! On Tuesday, 18-year-old Jaylen Smith won a runoff election to become the youngest Black mayor in America.
Smith posted about the win on Facebook, saying, "it's time to build a better chapter of Earle, Arkansas."
Mayor Smith graduated from high school in May 2022. His goals for the town include tearing down abandoned homes and building a grocery store. Earle has 1,800 residents and is not far from Memphis, Tennessee.
