Say goodbye to McDonald's favorite purple character.

"u made me feel so specialll ty, say goodbye grimace nowww," McDonald's tweeted on Thursday.

Grimace came back into the spotlight after Mcdonald's announced his birthday meal which included a limited-edition purple milkshake to celebrate the 52nd birthday of the purple character's birthday. The promotion started June 12.

TikTok did what it does, and the Grimace shake became a viral thing. The #grimaceshake has racked up over 142 million views on the platform and continues to grow. Grimace also turned into an online sensation and LGBTQ icon after being brought back for an eye-catching ad campaign during Pride Month.

Grimace was first brought into McDonald’s cast of characters in 1971, but as an evil monster with four arms to steal milkshakes, according to the Washingtonian. But after his appearance frightened children, he was recast as a warmer version of his old self with two arms instead of four and became Ronald McDonald’s best friend.
